Known as the “The Gateway to the Uintas”, Kamas is a quiet high country town located about eighteen miles east of Park City and about forty-five miles southeast of Salt lake City. The valley is surrounded by the Uinta Mountains to the east, the Wasatch Mountains to the west, the Provo River on the south, and the Weber River to the north. Beaver Creek, a tributary of the Weber, traverses the center of the city. The town defines itself by vast tracts of open space, access to recreation and family friendliness.
Kamas is perfectly situated to access the 56-mile Mirror Lake Highway Scenic Byway, where stunning views, beautifully developed campgrounds, and endless, rugged backcountry await. Because of this location, Kamas is the starting point for the annual High Uintas Classic, a two-day bicycle race that takes place every summer. The race features a mountain stage that takes participants on the Mirror Lake Highway from downtown Kamas over Bald Mountain Pass and into Evanston, Wyoming.
Kamas also hosts Fiesta Days, a community celebration including rodeos, a demolition derby, parade, and the Miss Fiesta Days scholarship pageant. The Francis Rodeo is absolutely one of the best events of the year! If you’re seeking small town living at it’s best, an absolutely kind and welcoming community as well as a recreation paradise, Kamas, Utah is the perfect place for your second home or primary residence.
